‎​The first illustration is of SEY coffee! Light, airy, and full of plants—this coffee shop has some of finest beans I’ve ever had. I sketched a small thumbnail and did the rough pencil line work.

‎​I scanned in the sketch and colored it. This was a big learning day—I’m not thrilled with the final result but I decided it was better to wrap it up and take the learnings into the next illustration. Specifically, I don’t this the color composition is very balanced and there isn’t a clear enough thesis / focal point. Green is notoriously difficult to work with, so that doesn’t help either. The next one I may take a step back and start with greyscale…then take it into color so I know the value structure is solid.

‎​Today’s coffee shop is Variety Roasters, which is a block away from my apartment. It’s quick and affordable, and has a cool sign tacked onto the side of the building. I did this one while watching an episode of Three Body Problem so it’s a little sloppy, but hey! I did it!!!
