I sketched out a couple ideas and landed on it being a little frog floating down the river. I have a vision of it spinning around on lily pad and then bumping into another frog that gets knocked into the water. Then, the frog will be pulled up onto the same lily pad and they will float off together.
I also drew the background that will be just rolling on a layer transform the whole time. I'm not sure if that's the most.... efficient way to do this but oh well!
This is the audio track that I'll be working with! It's a little long (1 min of animation is a LOT of work), so I'm going to pare it down to around 35-40 seconds and try to keep things simple.
My friend Matt sent me a lovely blurb of piano music that I want to use as the background sound for a simple animated loop.
timing ballz
so this is a head turn, I drew 3 key frames first and then the 2 inbetweens. something is off with the hair on the second turn but I am sleepy and don't want to debug right now.
This is a study referenced from mob psycho. It's animated only on threes, which was interesting to me. At first it felt like it was playing too fast, but when I tried changing it to fours, then it was obviously too slow. I wonder if there are keyframes to hair blowing shots like this, or if an animator would straight ahead it
here's the timesheet for the previous video animation because I couldn't uploaded a jpeg with the video file in the same check-in 😐
I made a 24 frame (1 sec) animation following a dancer reference video! It's from a cool website called http://www.bodiesinmotion.photo where you can go frame by frame for live reference. Really handy. Anyway, I took a stab at playing around with spacing to see how things feel. Went a little wild with the frame modulation because I was doing this in Storyboard Pro instead of Procreate (where I default to basically only animating on 3s). This is a mix of 4s, 3s, 2s. I have no idea what I'm basing those decisions on—it's purely feeling lol.
I did the hammer exercise that is popular as a test and also for students. It’s harder than I thought!! Maintaining the volume is challenging. Also animating is tedious and I have no patience.
Today’s was only 4 frames. The arm is wonky but also it was a bit rushed so I’ll forgive myself. It was supposed to be a bike but turned into a scooter.
I did it!
